Cloud Backup Services

Cloud storage is not backup. Having files in Microsoft 365 is not a backup strategy.

Discuss Cloud Backup

Overview

One of the most common misconceptions in cloud computing is that storing data in a cloud platform means it is backed up. It is not. Microsoft 365, OneDrive, SharePoint, Google Workspace, and other SaaS platforms provide redundancy — meaning the provider keeps your data available if a server fails. But redundancy is not backup.

If a user accidentally deletes a file, an employee leaves and their mailbox is removed, ransomware encrypts your SharePoint documents, or an administrator misconfigures a retention policy — that data can be gone. The cloud provider is not responsible for recovering it.

We help organizations implement proper cloud backup that includes retention policies, point-in-time recovery, ransomware resilience, and recovery testing — so that when data is lost, it can actually be recovered.

What We Do

Microsoft 365 Backup

We implement backup for Exchange Online mailboxes, SharePoint sites, OneDrive accounts, and Microsoft Teams data — with retention policies that go beyond what Microsoft provides natively.

Azure Backup

We configure Azure Backup for virtual machines, file servers, and Azure workloads — with policies for retention, encryption, and recovery testing.

SaaS Application Backup

We evaluate SaaS platforms your organization uses and implement backup where native retention is insufficient or compliance requires additional protection.

Retention Policy Design

We design retention policies that meet your compliance, legal, and operational requirements — balancing how long data is kept against storage costs and regulatory obligations.

Ransomware Resilience

We configure backup with immutability and off-site replication where appropriate, ensuring that ransomware cannot encrypt or delete your backup copies.

Recovery Testing

We test recovery procedures to verify that backups can actually be restored — because a backup that has never been tested is a hope, not a plan.

When It Makes Sense

This service is the right fit when:

  • You are using Microsoft 365 and have no backup beyond native retention policies
  • You need to retain email or documents for longer than the platform's default retention
  • You have compliance requirements that mandate independent backup of cloud data
  • You are concerned about ransomware encrypting cloud-hosted documents
  • You have experienced accidental deletion and had no way to recover
  • You want the security of knowing your cloud data can be restored if something goes wrong

What Can Go Wrong

Common pitfalls to avoid:

  • Assuming Microsoft 365 retention policies are equivalent to backup — they are not
  • Not testing recovery procedures, discovering too late that backups are incomplete or corrupted
  • Storing backups in the same environment as production data, so ransomware can reach both
  • Not configuring immutability, allowing ransomware or malicious insiders to delete backup copies
  • Backing up data but not testing retention policies, leading to unexpected data expiration

Alternatives to Consider

This service is not always the right answer. Depending on your situation, these alternatives may be more appropriate:

  • Microsoft 365 native retention policies provide some protection but are limited in scope and duration — they are not a substitute for independent backup
  • On-premises backup may be appropriate for organizations with significant local infrastructure, though it introduces its own management overhead
  • A hybrid backup approach — cloud backup for cloud data, on-premises backup for on-premises data — may be appropriate for hybrid environments

Frequently Asked Questions

Microsoft 365 includes redundancy and some retention features, but it does not include what most businesses would consider a true backup. If a user deletes a file and the retention period expires, or if ransomware encrypts documents, Microsoft cannot restore that data. Independent backup is needed.
